YUTE X CONFERENCE ANNOUNCES SONG WRITING AND DRAMA COMPETITION

The Yute X Conference has announced that it is currently accepting song, lyrics and 30-word synopses of drama pieces for showcasing at its conference to be held at the Knutsford Court Hotel from Wednesday, May 7 to Friday, May 9. Young persons from the ages of 16 to 24 are invited make their submissions by Friday, April 25, 2008.

Pieces should focus on any one of the following topics: Youth Advocacy: Impact on Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS; Youth Advocacy through the Media; Youth Representation, Governance, Decision-making Processes & Lobbying; The Impact of Youth Leadership in the Region; Youth Advocacy: New Approaches, Old Problems; Youth Advocacy through Creative Art Forms (music dance, visual art, poetry); The Caribbean Single Market Economy, CARICOM, Youth Leadership; or, Youth Advocacy in the inner city.

They should show originality, content and clarity, and applicants should provide up to three keywords to help organizers assign accepted pieces to thematic groups. Entries should be submitted in the following categories: Songs no longer than five minutes in length, and/or dramatizations no longer than seven minutes and with no more than five cast members.

Entries will be reviewed by the selection committee based on content, creativity and suitability for the event and relevance to the conference focus. They should be submitted with the authors relevant biographical and contact information (name, age, mailing address, e-mail, organization) and presentation title should be included. Lyrics and synopses should be submitted by e-mail to youthadvocacyconference@gmail.com.

The YUTE X – Youth Advocacy Conference will wrap up at Emancipation Park on Saturday, May 10 with an expo, in association with the Education Transformation Team.
